You are invited to participate in the Virtual Health Book Club!

The purpose: to broaden understanding and build competence when it comes to healing both as individuals and as a society.

Through this book club, I hope to encourage both connection and community. Connection to the wisdom of our bodies, to nourishment, the earth and to one another.

We heal as individuals and as a society when we are in relationship with one another. Through this book club, I hope to deepen and broaden our ties to one another.

In our interest to feel better as individuals, we cannot ignore that there may be larger issues at play that create dis-ease. Issues such as poverty, discrimination, violence and racism are issues we cannot ignore while we're busy counting carbs.

We can focus on self-care until we're blue in the face, but if we don't address systemic oppression, healing will be elusive. We are at amidst a powerful culture shift. How can we participate? What do each of us have to offer?

Let's connect with each other over topics that matter. Let's nurture our own healing as well as healing for those we don't know or don't understand.

If you love to learn and are interested in both connection and community and both the science and the spirit of nourishment, then you just have to participate.

It's free. It's virtual, so you can participate in your jammies.

We are averaging one book every other month. You can come to the book club without having read the book, so no pressure to come prepared. We'd love to have you join us.

WHAT WE'RE READING NOW:

Our seventh book club selection is No Weigh! A Teen's Gide to Positive Body Image, Food, and Emotional Wisdom by Signe Darpinian, Wendy Sterling and Shelley Aggarwal.

I met Signe at a conference for clinicians treating people with eating disorders. She is the President of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp™) SF Bay Area Chapter and she serves on The Body Positive Partnership Council.

No Weigh! is a book and workbook designed for teens but perfect for adults as well, really anyone who would benefit from un-learning the dieting mindset and replacing it with embodied self-care. This workbook debunks myths about diets and "forbidden" foods and also gives readers tools to avoid the insidious triggers of disordered eating.

This book is a must in our perfectionistic, body-shaming culture, a culture so pervasive that most of us are not aware of  how we are impacted.

I cannot recommend your participation more highly.
